Flavours of Italy a roaring success!

Treading the cobbled brickworks in the foyer of historic Bendigo Pottery Function centre, guests were welcomed beneath twinkling fairy lights, handed effervescent Sparkling Shiraz while an operetta filled the air with the rustic charm of Italian summer nights in the village courtyards.

Peter and the Fyffe clan created a cozy, familial atmosphere for their first ever wine and food event as part of the Bendigo Winegrowers' Heritage Uncorked Week: a five course northern Italian feast matched perfectly with a selection of Glenwillow's finest drops.

Highlights range from the wine barrel handcrafted platters laden with antipasto matched with the launch of Glenwillow's 2018 Rose, to a blind tasting of new release 2016 Nebbiolo and Award-Winning 2009 Nebbiolo, matched with Braised Beef Cheeks with tomato & basil, and Eggplant Parmigiana with Bullboar Sausage. Guests were fortunate to sample alongside their pannacotta and hazelnut torte desserts, some of Peter's fortified Shiraz, never before tasted outside the family!

Interspersed throughout Glenwillow's relaxed slow-food event, Peter shared a little of the history of the vineyard, winegrowing and winemaking processes, and talked us though the wine tasting experience from the grower's perspective. A fine mix of classical Italian music, wine education, glorious Nonna-hug soul-warming dishes, and spectacular wines. Italy really did come the Bendigo for the night. Can't wait to see what next year brings!!
